Doctor Who Tapestry - July Update

July has been a slow month for the tapestry. Roughly I had been completing a character a month until now. With all the heat it's been hard to stitch, holding the material close has been like holding a woolly jumper up close. I've managed to complete about the Dragon from Dragonfire.

Doctor Who Tapestry - June Update

June has seen me continuing May's colour scheme - mainly in shades of white and gold, as I contained the 1988 story Remembrance of the Daleks.

It's taken all but the last couple of days of June to add the Emperor Dalek / Davros alongside the Special Weapons Dalek.

Initial sketch on the aida

but what's next?

Doctor Who Tapestry - May Update

May has seen me working mainly in shades of white and gold, as I added the Special Weapons Dalek from the 1988 story Remembrance of the Daleks

And I'll be sticking with these colours whilst tackling the Emperor Dalek version of Davros that also graced this adventure.

Doctor Who Tapestry - April Update

A quick post to update on the latest progress of the tapestry, but to start with I twittered and posted on Instagram at the start of the month that I had unpicked the tapestry to start again...

Of course it was just an April Fool joke, there was no way I could have unpicked the whole thing in one night.

Meanwhile update on actual progress.

So with the following initial colour palette selected.

I set to work to stitch the Bus Conductor, also from The Greatest Show in the Galaxy.

Then when I had finished with him I moved on to a different story, still sticking with the Sylvester McCoy era, this time I headed off to Terra Alpha for The Happiness Patrol. The Kandyman is already on the tapestry but with the colour selection of...

Let's just say, I hope that you're happy Helen A?

And next with the colour selection...

I wonder who this might be?

Doctor Who Tapestry - Battle On 2

As February draws to a close I'm pleased to say I have completed Ancelyn now on the tapestry.

I'm pleased with how he has come out, I'll be honest there was a period about half way when I felt he wasn't going right. This often happens during the work, and it's not until the eyes are finished, usually one of the last parts I do, and the final details are stitched in that the final effect is achieved.

This means we now have five characters on this current working panel all from two Sylvester McCoy stories, "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy" and "Battlefield".

The next character is again from the first story mentioned, after this I'll be moving on to another McCoy story, but until then I'll be stitching....

"Any more fares please?...."

Doctor Who Tapestry - Battle on

Following on from the January update post showing Mordred I have now completed the work on his mother the immortal Morgaine.

Yesterday I tweeted this was the colour scheme in use this weekend, this is mainly armour and sword colours that I’m using for Ancelyn.

I start with a rough sketch and begin filling in the shading. As work progresses slight rework is done on the sketch as I go, as you can see where the sword has moved slightly. Sometimes this is the result of how stitching doesn’t always look right when trying to follow the original sketch.

And finally I'm starting Ancelyn's hair, here's the colour range I've sorted to start with.

Doctor Who Tapestry - January Update

The last few weekends have been given over mainly to work on the tapestry, having started to compile the galleries by season and working out just how many additional characters and stories I want to include means I have to give as much spare time to this as possible.

I’ve just finished Mordred, next I need to complete work on Morgaine, both from Battlefield. I’m also intending to add Ancelyn to complete King Arthur trio of characters that appeared in the story. If you’re wondering about Brigadier Bambera, you will find her on the special panel dedicated to UNIT alongside Leithbridge-Stewart and co.

Also this weekend I released the first two gallery pages based upon my audit of ensuring each story from the classic era is represented. The gallery pages cover the first two Pertwee seasons, Season 7 and Season 8. You can find them by selecting the Adventures with the 3rd Doctor page on the navigation bar.

The Mind of Evil is in need of representation, any suggestions on who or what would be good to include specific to this story?

I’m off to do some more stitching…
