Less Bangs but Bigger Bucks?

A November Update

(*) For a Who's Who see below.
You may have noticed that I’ve not got much in the way of model building done recently. That has something to do with the fact that I’m not only working with Tenth Planet Events signings and Doctor Who conventions these days but also Fantom Films as well. This has meant that I was at seven events over six weekends not leaving a lot of time for building work.  These are fun to do and if you’re into science fiction and fantasy, especially but not limited to Doctor Who then why not come along to an event. These are held in Barking, Chiswick, Newcastle, Peterborough, Slough and South London – so covering quite a few miles travelling as well.

Also, if you do come along and would like me to bring a set of Karl books for you then drop me a line, because then I can offer them a special event price. You can find the next event I’ll be at featured in the right hand rail of this site.

That’s not say that I didn’t take time to do my Dagenham walkabout following the national celebration of my brother’s birthday. Ok, so maybe November 5th has other significance as well which is why the fireworks are let off. It might have been because the date fell on a Thursday this year, that when I took the walk this year’s haul was incredibly small by comparison to previous years.  But before anyone starts to shout, I’m in total agreement that fireworks should be restricted, they do scare pets and wildlife and it is not fare on them at all, but whilst they are still sold I shall continue to round up what sticks I can to recycle into these buildings. All the frame work on the haunted house was built from the rocket sticks from the last couple of years.

Building work aside I am also dedicating a lot of time again to writing, working on the new project that has been in progress now for a year or so since Karl was completed.

There are currently two volumes planned to the new series of books – I’ve given some hints out in the past but not going to reveal too much at the moment, only to say that I was very excited by one of the figures in the recent Lego Minifigure series that was released, you might be able to guess why from this photo.

Who Cares?

I’ve mentioned a few times on here before some of the events I get involved with to do with Doctor Who Conventions. There are several events each year from simple signing events in Barking, to specific event days in Slough, through to the weekend event in Newcastle.

Who Care 1 Group Photo, with you're truely.

Some of the one day events in Slough are charity events where the special guests appear to help raise money for causes close to their hearts. We’ve had “Motormouth” to raise funds for “Project Motorhouse” (in the past with David Tennant and Peter Capaldi) and “Who Cares?” (with Joanna Lumley, Sir Derek Jacobi and Bernard Cribbins) to raise money for the actor’s retirement home, Denville Hall.

Motormouth 2 Companions Special

The latest of these events coming up is Who Cares 2 on 20th June in Slough.

The guests this time include original Doctor Who companions Ian and Susan (William Russell & Carole Ann Ford), Romana & K9 (Lalla Ward & John Leeson) and (try to avoid saying ‘I don't believe it’ because it’s true) Richard Wilson – he of One Foot in the Grave, Merlin and Daemons not to mention his guest appearance in Doctor Who.

Tickets include a photo shoot with all guests and autographs, and others are available to purchase as additional items. Full details and tickets are available from Tenth Planet Events website.

More guests are expected to be announced soon. These really have to be must attend events for any Doctor Who fan. I’ll be there along with one of the guests so why not come along and say hello, it would be great to see you and you'll be helping raise money for some great causes.

(Guests appear subject to work commitments)

With original companion William Russell at a previous event.

Karl goes Kindle

After a bit of a delay I can finally announce that the first volume of the Karl trilogy has gone live on the Kindle. Other formats may follow in the later part of the year, at the moment the e-book version is exclusive to Kindle.

A provisional schedule is set for the other parts of the trilogy,  and will be announced here soon.

The uncertain future of 100 Publishing has meant a little re-think in the plan. However in the meantime paper based copies of the original are still available through the links on the right, direct from me via the 100 Publishing website, or through Amazon Market Place.

Signed copies are also still available from 10th Planet Events - link is also on the right.

Oh and BTW... You don't need to own a Kindle to read Kindle books.
You can download a free app to your laptop/pc,  iphone/ipad etc. from Amazon
And, as if that's not enough Amazon Prime customers can rent a number of titles for free,
Karl - Birth of Mystery included.

MotorMouth in the snow

"Janet Fielding has a new fight on her hands not against the Daleks or Cybermen but against cancer. Peter Davison has swung into action and enlisted the help of his fellow Doctors to launch Project MotorMouth. It will not only raise money for a good cause but also keep Janet's spirits up."

Project MotorMouth Website.

Last weekend I took a trip to Slough, Friday was one of those snowy days in the UK which we have trouble with. Even the threat of snow causes most transport networks to throw their hands in the air and cancel services before even the first flake falls. So it was with some surprise that I made it to Slough station on Friday afternoon, but it was no surprise to find that buses and taxis had given up and gone home. So with iphone navigation myself and another poor bugger I found stranded at the station began to navigate a treacherous route by foot to the hotel. Fortunately I made it there alive.

Even more fortunately the weather improved for Saturday so the majority of the attendees made it, along with all the guests with the exception of poor John Leeson who found himself stuck in Hamburg, due to strike action rather than foul weather. Full marks also go to Colin Baker, who was rehearsing in Lincoln in the morning due to commitments he had to his touring play (The Lady in White), but still came and signed for everyone when the easy option would have been to have cried off.

As crew I had a delightful time in the morning as PA for Simon Fisher-Becker (Dorium in the previous series), and the line up of Doctors was quite an event, with Doctors 5, 7, 8 & 10 on stage together. A good sum was raised in the auction for the MotorHouse project (*) - a project to renovate West Cliff Hall in Ramsgate being championed by Janet Fielding as part of her recovery therapy. It seems to be working as Janet was in fine form Saturday.

For more details of the project and to donate direct you can visit the project's website:
http://www.projectmotorhouse.org.uk

There is a second event planned for August, this time driven by companions rather than Doctors, I'm sure it will be a great event and there are still a few tickets left. For more details visit...

(*) Motorhouse is the project to renovate West Cliff Hall in Ramsgate, MotorMouth is the name for the fundraising done in Janet's name, as Tegan was known as 'The Mouth on Legs' during her time in Doctor Who.

Details of Colin's tour can be found here:

Karl - Birth of Mystery now at Tenth Planet Events

Just a quick posting to let you know that signed copies of Karl – Birth of Mystery can now be bought from Tenth Planet Events as well as directly from me through the publisher’s website at Hundred Publishing. I signed a stock up for them on Saturday during their recent Doctor Who signing event. They do actually have stock in unlike other online retails I could mention.

The Hundred Publishing website requires you to use Paypal for the purchase, but if you prefer some of the more traditional payment methods then Tenth Planet can help you there as they are a fully fledged on-line and mail order business. Whilst you’re there why not take a look at some of the Doctor Who signing events and conventions they organise or browse the rest of their online shop for signed DVDs, books, CDs and other film, TV and celebrity memorabilia.

Another short teaser.

Hanna awoke from a deep sleep and looked across the room at her sister; there was something noticeably different about her. Katarina’s hair had turned a distinct shade lighter, which contrasted with her own which she was convinced had become darker.
She had tried to reach out with her mind to locate Karl, but he was concealed from her, hidden by forces that scared her. She climbed from her bed and silently dressed then using the power of transportation she faded from her bedroom with her destination planned as Zandina’s old town house that had been left to Reoma.
When she arrived, Hanna appeared just outside the front gates, a force had propelled her from the property during transportation. None of them had been able to cross the boundary that had arisen in the time that had passed after Zandina’s physical body had passed away and her essence had been passed on.
